Daniel Ciaburri, MD, FACC, FACS, MBA

Dr. Ciaburri obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He completed Surgery Residency at The New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center, and went on to specialize in Cardiothoracic Surgery where he finished his postdoctoral training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He additionally has an MBA from Columbia Business School. Dr. Ciaburri has extensive experience as a cardiothoracic surgeon: he has practiced as an attending surgeon at The New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center, Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut (where he served as the Director of Cardiothoracic Intensive Care), Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York, New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center, and Lenox Hill Hospital (where he served as the Chief of Cardiothoracic Intensive Care). He was the Program Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Adult ECMO Program at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, Lead Cardiovascular Surgeon and Director of Cardiovascular Intensive Care at Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois, and was the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at University of Chicago Ingalls Memorial just prior to his recruitment to the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Ciaburri joined UPMC’s Cardiothoracic Surgery Department in 2019 where he is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery and currently holds the title of Director of Cardiac Surgery at UPMC Altoona.

Dr. Ciaburri is board certified by both the American Board of Surgery as well as the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is an active member of several surgical societies and is a coauthor on multiple peer-reviewed publications. He is an integral member of the Department whose accomplishments and contributions to optimizing patient outcomes is an invaluable asset to UPMC and members of its community.
