Evan T. Alicuben, MD

Dr. Alicuben obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles. He completed his training in General Surgery Residency at LAC+USC Medical Center at the University of Southern California, and went on to specialize in Cardiothoracic Surgery as a Fellow in Minimally Invasive Thoracic and Foregut Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Throughout his career as a trainee Dr. Alicuben has been recognized for his accomplishments as a resident especially with regard to teaching and education. He was awarded the Keck School of Medicine's Outstanding Teaching as a House Officer Award three years in a row (2015-2017), the Outstanding Resident Physician Teaching Award, Jeanine Chalabian Most Dedicated Teacher Award, USC Department of Surgery Commitment to Teaching Award, and USC Outstanding Contribution to Medical Student Education Award. His residency and fellowship training culminated in his induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Society in 2020 and the UPMC Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinical Excellence Award in 2022.

Dr. Alicuben is currently an Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UPMC, with UPMC Shadyside as his primary practice site. He is a large proponent of resident and fellow education and is highly dedicated to academia and research in addition to honing his surgical skillset and optimizing patient care. During residency he received an Outstanding Scholar Award from USC's Department of Surgery and in 2018 received the Best Article Award- Most Citations from the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery. To date Dr. Alicuben has authored or co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters and invited manuscripts.

Research Interests

Dr. Alicuben's research interests include clinical outcomes of benign and malignant foregut disorders, database design and management, utilization of large datasets and education of surgical trainees.
