Dr. Witek obtained his Doctor of Medicine from Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, and completed his General Surgery Residency at UPMC Mercy Hospital. He remained at the University of Pittsburgh to further specialize in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr. Witek was recognized for his accomplishments throughout his training; notably he received the UPMC Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery's Resident Clinical Excellence Award in both 2019 and 2020, and was also a recipient of 2019's AATS Graham Foundation Surgical Robotics Fellowship.

Upon completion of his fellowship training Dr. Witek remained at the University of Pittsburgh and currently holds the academic appointment of Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, with UPMC Mercy as his primary practice site. Dr. Witek is highly committed to the care of his patients as well as to resident learning and education. He is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the Association for Academic Surgery, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. To date he has authored or coauthored several peer-reviewed journal articles.
