Michael J Lazar, MD, MHA, FACC

Dr. Michael Lazar is an attending of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UPMC Williamsport. He received his medical degree from UMDNJ- New Jersey Medical School and completed residency training in General Surgery at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He went on to pursue fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and additionally has a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) from Kings College in Wilkes Barre, PA. Dr. Lazar is board certified in Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and is appointed as a Clinical Associate Professor with the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Dr. Lazar currently serves as the Regional Medical Director of Cardiac Surgery at UPMC Williamsport, Altoona, and Western Maryland, and is the Executive Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC North Central PA. His clinical and operative practice spans both cardiac and thoracic surgery, including minimally invasive aortic valve and mitral valve procedures, aortic surgery, TAVR, TEVAR, bypass and arrhythmia surgery, as well as robotic procedures including CABG, lobectomies, and mediastinal surgeries.

Dr. Lazar remains highly committed to his profession, as is demonstrated by his active membership with professional societies including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Pennsylvania Association for Thoracic Surgery, and the American College of Cardiology. He is a council member on numerous hospital committees and has participated in several hospital-based projects and initiatives throughout his career. Dr. Lazar is also dedicated to sharing and advancing the knowledge both within and beyond his profession, having provided didactic lectures and presentations regionally and nationally.
